Learn While Building Your Website
We call it "Assisted Development"
You'll learn how to plan every aspect of you website in an organized fashion (this is why most websites cost so much, most of the time is not spent building, it is in the planning.) Using worksheets we've developed over 15 years of website development, you'll plan the scope, strategy, and understand all the details that make up a successful website.
After you've created your plan, we'll begin the build. We'll install and configure the core of the website platform, create users, discuss what themes to use, how we want to configure the page layout, what extra goodies you want to include. Throughout the process you'll be hands-on while the site is being built.
We've packaged it as a hands-on three-step process, however for those who have already taken one of our planning classes, Step 3 can be taken without Steps 1 and 2.
Understand the Process
Review our 16-page step-by-step "how to create a website" overview, which has been used to teach web development classes for over 6 years. This "soup to nuts" tutorial will give you "the big picture" and prepare you for the work involved.
It may seem tedious, but "the devil is in the details" and there's so many websites built without planning that just don't go anywhere. So we've also developed an entire "web strategy" section that will help you make smart marketing decisions.
Using our own series of worksheets, you'll learn to develop goals, keywords, audience profiles, do a competitive analysis, then using that information you'll create your website strategy. This is the web equivalent of a business plan and will get you off to a good start.
Then you'll determine your requirements (what functions you need your website to perform) The finally you'll complete our content map that includes all the options you'll need, the number of pages, and choose layout, colors, images you'll want to use. The content map helps you plan each page of the site, how it will look and what it will do.
We'll install and configure the core of the website platform, create users, discuss what themes to use, how we want to configure the page layout, what extra functionality you want to include. Both instructor and student (you) are logged in to the admin section so you can learn (as we do it) how the plugins work, what each area of the entire admin section does, and you'll soon be able to add pages, widgets, etc... Together we'll get the site built out (from the technical side) to what you want. You'll be responsible for the content, but you'll learn how to add, edit and change pages, add more plugins, and have 24/7 access to the site. Throughout the process you'll be hands-on while the site is being built.
Basically this is one-on-one learning. Once we've done all the set up, added all the features that you need help with, the site will be yours. You'll be able to add new pages, add products, change almost any aspect of the site yourself.
Our fee includes 1 year of hosting. The price will be based on a fairly standard website configuration, you can add YouTube videos to your site easily, you can even mirror your facebook page on a separate page, have your latest tweets appear on the sidebar, allow comments, put all your social media links (google+, LinkedIn, etc...) and excerpts on the sidebar, and a blog.
You'll need a paypal account if you're selling items online (or want to accept payments online) and you'll need to purchase your own domain name.
