Keywords Get You Ranked
Attracting the universe of people interested in what you are selling is the key to a successful search strategy. List every word or phrase that might be used to describe your product or service. This list should also contain every phrase you can think of that might be used in a search to find your website. Now it is time for a reality check.
A good place to start is Google's Keyword Research Tool. Use this website to test every one of your words and phrases to determine how popular they are, to find out if other words might work better, basically to determine how popular the search terms your want to use have been over a certain period of time.
Gather a Vocabulary of Keywords
Once you have done keyword research and determined the best keywords for every aspect of your website it is time to put together a "vocabulary". This vocabulary becomes important in determining how your page will be ranked by search engines. There are many factors that go into your ranking, below are some of the more critical.
Using your Keywords in:
- Page Title
- Domain Name
- H1 and H2 headline tags
- Internal and external links
- Alt text for images
- Keyword repetition (keyword density)
